Log home restoration Montana

There is no secret in retaining the beauty of your log home.
A little care and maintenance along with the use of quality products
designed specifically for log homes will not only keep your
home looking great but will also preserve the integrity of the
logs and help prevent costly repairs. You can do no better than
selecting any of Perma-Chink Systems’ Family of Environmen-
tally Friendly Log Home Products.
Lifeline Ultra-2™ followed with a clear topcoat of Lifeline
Advance™ Satin or Gloss combine to form the ultimate
exterior finish system for your log home. Through many years
of research, development and experience, Perma-Chink Systems
has perfected waterborne finishes that provide the following
benefits.
1. Lifeline stains and topcoats provide the best-looking
finish you can find. They distinguish your home by highlighting
the grain and texture to bring out the natural beauty of your
wood. Compare them to any finish you can find. Others have
tried to copy the look and performance of Lifeline but never
succeeded.
2
2. Lifeline’s high-performance polymers encase the
wood fibers to protect the surface, where the protection
is needed. Lifeline forms a flexible coating that expands
and contracts to accommodate seasonal expansion and
shrinking of the wood.
3. Pigments and Ultraviolet (UV) inhibitors are
important components for protecting wood. Although UV
inhibitors help extend the life of the finish, it is the pigments
that provide long-term protection against UV rays
while highlighting the natural wood grain appearance.
Both Lifeline Ultra-2 and Lifeline EXterior contain these
necessary, valuable pigments.
As the finish wears off, pigment weathers away at
the same time. Then, as maintenance coats are applied,
you avoid the build-up of pigment that occurs with conventional
exterior finishes. The result - Your home still
looks as good after years of maintenance as the first time
you finished it. Conventional exterior finishes build up
layer after layer of pigment on the wood, making your
house darker each time you apply another maintenance
coat. The Lifeline system gives you the choice during
maintenance coats to use pigmented Lifeline and/or clear
Lifeline Advance topcoats.
4. All Lifeline stains breathe to allow the wood to
dry naturally as they protect wood from absorbing moisture
from rain, snow and humidity, which also helps to
minimize checking.
5. Lifeline finishes are easy to apply, release no toxic
fumes, are not flammable and clean up easily with soap
and water.
How to Maintain Your Exterior Lifeline
Finish?
Initial application to your exterior is two coats of
Lifeline EXterior or Lifeline Ultra-2, followed by one or
two clear topcoats of Lifeline Advance Satin or Gloss
protective finish. During inspection and cleaning evaluate
the condition of the finish to determine if any areas of
the home may need another coat of Lifeline Advance Satin
or Gloss.
After these applications of Lifeline, your exterior

log home restoration washington

Log home and cabin maintenance does not have to be a headache if you set up a routine maintenance program. Log home and cabin owners should consider the maintenance on their log home to be a continual project. Use log wash to clean your home bi-annually. Re-applying log stains and applying a little caulking or chinking every couple of years is an absolute necessity for most log home and cabin owners. Below you will find some tips for maintaining your log home.

1. Walk around the perimeter of your log home once a year. Take pictures to compare changes over the years. Keep plants 18 inches away from house. Keep fire wood as far away as possible.
2. Look to see if you have any new checks that need to be filled with caulking / chinking material. Only Checks 1/4 or larger should be filled. They should only be filled on the top half of the log.
3. Examine any high moisture areas for possible water damage. If rot is present use a wood restoration product to remedy the situation. Purchase a moisture meter to monitor your logs. Moisture above 20 percent is a problem area.
4. Look for any small holes created from wood boring insects. If you remove old stain apply borate on the logs before restaining. A product called "Home guard" is good to apply once a year.
5. Look to see whether your log stain is faded or peeling. Is the stain becoming grey from UV damage? Darken wood could mean it is drawing in too much water or that mold is forming. Either case the stain has failed.
6. Clean your wood before applying more stain material. The idea is to remove any dirt, dust or debris from the surface of your wood. The new stain material will only be as good as the surface that it adheres to.
7.Permachink Ultra II stain is the best stain to apply to well prepared logs. Walnut shell media blasting with follow up sanding is the best way to remove old stain.
8. Use a quality log home stain. Permachink Ultra II stain has a five year warranty unlike any other stain on the market.
9. The better surface preparation you do, the longer your log home stain will last.
10. Fill all checks and cracks that are a 1/4″ or greater. This will prevent any water or bugs from getting in your home.
11. Look for any tears in your chinking. This material can happen from a poor initial application of chinking or excessive movement in your wood. Fixing the torn chinking can be as easy as re-applying more chinking material to the existing chinking. Most chinking materials adhere to themselves.

LIFELINE ULTRA-2

The Highest Durability Stain and Finish for Your Home

Lifeline Ultra-2 - the two coat application helps to ensure consistent color development on your walls. From the day that you apply it to the many years of durability that you get from it, this wood stain will distinguish your home.

A protective clear coat of Lifeline Advance Gloss or Satin adds depth and clarity to the wood grain. The smooth surface of the clear coat repels dirt and dust, and makes walls easier to clean when cleaning becomes necessary. Like all Lifeline finishes, it is breathable, waterborne and easy to work with.

Lifeline Ultra-2 is the first component of our two component exterior wood finish system. The second component is a clear topcoat of Lifeline Advance Gloss or Satin. We have found that there are very distinct functional differences between the durability and appearance functions of stains and clear topcoats.

The stain system (Lifeline Ultra-2 and Lifeline Advance) is greater than the sum of its individual components. This is because the formulations of the two components are significantly different. Each is formulated to perform separate but complementary functions to the other.
